Santa Cruz

In 1973, Santa Cruz Skateboards began its journey in Santa Cruz, California. It all started with the dreams of surfers Richard Novak, Doug Haut, and Jay Shuirman. Initially facing challenges in the surfboard industry, a friend from Hawaii changed their course by challenging them to craft 500 skateboards. This unexpected opportunity led to the birth of Santa Cruz Skateboards and early recognition in the pages of Skateboarder Magazine.

Innovative Skateboard Design

Santa Cruz is renowned for pioneering new skateboard ideas. They were among the first to use concave decks and introduce Everslick. Their commitment to pushing boundaries extends to design and art. Artist Jim Phillips made an indelible mark on the brand with iconic logos like the red dot and the Screaming Hand, breaking the rules of skateboard design. His legacy continues with his son, Jimbo.

What's an Everslick Skateboard?

A Santa Cruz Everslick skateboard deck is a standard 7-ply maple deck but with an added slim plastic sheet on the graphic side's bottom. This plastic layer serves multiple purposes: it increases your sliding speed, protects the deck's graphics, and provides added strength compared to a regular skateboard deck without this plastic coating.
