Rubber Toe Cap Skate Shoes Wear Test Review

The rubber toe cap craze is going strong.  Almost every skate shoe brand has hopped on the bandwagon in 2016, so we skated every model we carry to give you an in depth wear test comparison.  Most of the shoes are actually pretty similar with a low profile vulcanized construction, but they all have their own subtle differences that make them stand out.  Watch the video for the full review and check out our top three favorite rubber toe cap skate shoes below.

adidas Skateboarding Matchcourt

Available in low, mid, slip-on, canvas, and suede, the Matchcourt beats out all the others with its diversity of options.  The only drawback is it's thin insole and outsole construction that lacks impact protection.  Perfect for getting techy, but we recommend staying low to the ground unless you swap in some more supportive after market insoles.  Overall, it's a very low profile shoe that offers great board feel with a large toe cap for grippy flick and lasting durability.

Etnies Marana XT

Unlike nearly all the other models, the XT is designed for guys who like gaps and handrails.  Chris Joslin's shoe of choice has an exposed STI midsole and cupsole construction for superior impact protection.  It also features a molded polyurethane toe cap that lasts three times longer than a standard rubber toe cap.  It'll take a little more effort to break them in than the others, but the durability and support is long lasting.

Vans Style 112

The perfect blend of flexibility and support.  While it features a low profile vulcanized design, it also utilizes the Vans Ultracush HD insole for added comfort and impact protection.  We also preferred the shape of the toe cap over many of the others.  Less bulk means less break in time and a more subtle appearance.  It also uses Vans Duracap underlays to protect from ollie holes, an area where most competitors fall short.  The Style 112 is a truly durable all around skate shoe.
