Nike SB PS8 | Shoe Review
Introducing the PS8, the newest silhouette from Nike SB. This was the last shoe that Nike skateboarding founder Sandy Bodecker ever worked on, and it’s full of technology, new features, and innovation. The PS8 name comes from the late Bodecker’s Instagram, @problemsolver8, and the goal of this shoe is to solve all the major problems in skateboarding shoes. Tactics team rider Dakota Mead reviewed the official Paris Olympic colorway.
High-Tech Upper
Nike SB wanted to create shoe that had maximum breathability, without compromising durability. The upper is constructed out of a fly-knit material found in many Nike running shoes, with a durable leather PU coated toe cap. Dakota loved the shape of the toe cap, mentioning that it covered all of his normal high-wear areas.
The Fit
Dakota mentioned that the shoe fit slightly bigger than he’s used to with other Nike SB models, but over the course of his first session they molded to his foot how he wanted them to. He doesn’t recommend sizing down unless you prefer a snug fit.
“I tend to skate like a little bit wider shoe, like a Dunk, so I was concerned that these were skinny when I first saw them. But they're super stable, and I didn't worry about landing kind of funny and rolling my ankle”
Groundbreaking Midsole
The PS8’s midsole features a unique foam compound and nylon flyplate, promising unmatched responsiveness, and return on energy. The Flyplate also adds protection when you land primo.
Olympic Colorway
If you like the Safari dunks or Air Max, this is the colorway for you. This flashy colorway harkens back to many old shoes on both the SB side and otherwise. Check out this Olympic colorway, and be prepared for more colors coming down the line.
Flexible Cupsole
The cupsole is durable and shock-absorbing to provide the best impact protection against hard landings. Cupsoles generally last longer than a vulcanized sole but don't provide as much flexibility and board feel right out of the box.
The Verdict
Overall, the Nike SB PS8 is a great shoe for skateboarding. It's breathable, comfortable, and stable. If you're looking for a new skateboarding shoe, we highly recommend checking out the Nike SB PS8.
