Intro

Today, we're diving into the world of Asics with a deep dive into their Gel Vickka Pro skate shoe. While Asics is a seasoned player in the athletic footwear game, they're relative newcomers to the skate scene. So, let's see if they've nailed it with their first skate shoe offering.

The Rundown

To give you the lowdown, we're breaking down the Gel™ Vickka Pro into five key categories:

  • Fit and Comfort
  • Boardfeel and Flexibility
  • Flick and Grip
  • Impact Protection
  • Durability

Let's get into the details.

Fit and Comfort: 4/5

The Gel™ Vickka Pro fits true to size in length, but those with wider feet might experience some tightness initially. The tongue straps can be a bit constricting at first, but they loosen up with wear. The shoe's pointed toe shape is great for flip tricks, but the lack of ventilation leads to sweaty feet. Overall, a solid 4 out of 5 for fit and comfort.

Boardfeel and Flexibility: 4/5

Despite being a cupsole, the Gel™ Vickka Pro offers surprisingly good boardfeel thanks to its thin profile. It breaks in quickly, providing flexibility where you need it and stability where it counts. A commendable 4 out of 5 for boardfeel and flexibility.

Flick and Grip: 4/5

The flick on this shoe is impressive. The outsole provides a consistent and predictable feel, and the grip is surprisingly good considering the tread pattern. While it won't stop you from sliding on smooth surfaces, it holds up well overall. Another 4 out of 5 for flick and grip.

Impact Protection: 2/5

This is where the Gel™ Vickka Pro falls short. The thin insole and minimal padding in the toe area offer little impact protection. The Gel™ cushioning in the heel is a plus, but it's not enough to save this category from a 2 out of 5 rating.

Durability: 5/5

Now, this is where the Gel™ Vickka Pro truly shines. The thick one-piece toebox is incredibly resistant to tears, and the thick suede upper shows impressive wear and tear. The outsole has held up well, and even the laces have exceeded expectations. A full 5 out of 5 for durability!

Final Thoughts

We went into this review with neutral expectations but came away pleasantly surprised. The Asics Gel™ Vickka Pro is a solid skate shoe with a great balance of performance and durability. While the impact protection could be improved, the overall package is impressive.

If you're looking for a new skate shoe that offers good boardfeel, excellent durability, and a clean look, the Gel™ Vickka Pro is definitely worth considering.
