The Regulus is the go-to, digital adventure watch with excessive functions and 100 meter waterproofing. The super tough, reinforced polycarbonate case and Thermoplastic Polyurethane band ensure a long-lasting, durable build that can hold up in rugged environments. The military inspired, tactical design looks good on the wrist and makes you look like you know what you're doing when roughing it in the sticks. Whether you actually do or not is the real question.

Nixon Regulus Watch
I have several remarks on my experience with the Regulus. I have bought the SURPLUS CARBON version with the positive display.
In the flood of G-shocks on the streets worn by every second person, your Nixon Regulus stands out and looks good whether you are in the gym, on the beach or in your smart casual attire in the bar.
Fiber-reinforced robust case, big buttons water resistant up to 100 m, large LCD screen and easy to navigate menu are the main pros of this watch. Big time numerals are visible in most light conditions and the dual chronograph visible as well in all time mode and alarm mode helps to keep track of the measured activity. I would prefer that function to be abandoned in the timer and alarm mode and similarly to the chronograph mode I would like to see the current time. That would help with the choice of the pre-set timers or setting up the custom timer and alarm. That’s my personal opinion and others may argue against my preference.
What I dislike in the Regulus is the lack of visible indicator of the alarm being toggled-on in the main home screen. You can see the timer symbol if the timer works but there is no symbol for the alarm. You have to go into the alarm mode to check if any of the three alarms is switched on. The other imperfection in this mode is the date format with the month in bigger font than the day. In suboptimal light it is much harder to check the date. The month changes less frequently.
In the timer mode if you let the timer run till the end and forget to reset the timer that omission freezes the timer mode and you cannot use the timer mode at all. I wasn’t able even scroll through the available pre-set timers. That happened to me on the first day of playing with the Regulus and I was suspecting malfunction of the new watch. No need to panic – just reset the timer (not mentioned in the operations manual.
Silent mode is great but the Regulus designers forget to implement additional cues to let the watch owner know that the alarm is on. While the timer blinking indicator in the silent mode on the home screen can be easily missed the there are no other signs for the alarm being triggered. A vibration alarm (e.g. Timex Grid Shock and T49851, Casio G-SHOCK GD 350), or flash alert (e.g. Casio G-shock DW-5600) could improve functionality of Regulus significantly. If that would be implemented in the next version I would upgrade my watch without doubt.
The Regulus has 5-year battery life but the operating manual recommends change every 2 years.
Custom injection-molded free-swing TPU 80 band with the water flow texture on bottom side feels very comfortable on the wrist even in hot weather. I prefer it to my raisin watch straps from Casio and Seiko. Nixon’s patented locking looper is a great future but I would like additional second looper/keeper fixed close to the buckle to improve the feel and to secure the non-buckle end once the strap is fastened. I use a keeper from my old G-shock and even if it doesn’t look optimal it does do the trick.
Summing up – great watch with even bigger potential.
