The Skate Spot Directory That Fits In Your Pocket

Did Jamie Thomas slide into your DM’s looking for a place to crash then ask where some local spots are? Did you have anything handy to show The Chief around your town?

If you’re an iPhone user, you already have all the tools to create a comprehensive skate spot directory for any and every spot you’ve ever been to. All you need to do is turn on geotagging and start snapping every curb cut, ledge, handrail, gap and manny pad you see.

So what exactly happens when you snap a photo with your iPhone? Well, thankfully, you turned geotagging on, and your super duper smart phone knows where you are at all times. Now you just need to access your photos which are conveniently organized by location. Let us show you how…

Step 1: Whichever view you see upon opening the Photos app, you’ll want to tap the “Photos” icon in the lower left then tap “Years” in the top left.

Step 2: You’ll now see a collection of photos organized by year; however, the key here is tapping the list of cities. On this example, you see “Portland, Turner, Eugene, etc.” Now the good stuff.

Step 3: Voilà, a map. Double tap to zoom in.

Step 4: Double tap to zoom in more. You’ll notice we’re headed to Eugene, Oregon.

Step 5: Oh look, more spots.

Step 6: Finally seeing something…

Step 7: Is that a detailed skate spot map? Should we click the photo to check out the spot? Do it.

Step 8: And there’s your spot. Thumbs up for a flat gap in front of an abandoned warehouse.

Pro Tip: You can also create a “Skate Spots” album and organize photos that way, but, unfortunately, you lose the map functionality.
