Nike SB Koston 3 Hyperfeel Wear Test Review

The most talked about skate shoe of 2016, the Nike SB Koston 3 Hyperfeel has received a fairly controversial response from the skate scene. We put all arguments aside to wear test the shoes and give honest feedback about how they skated and held up over time.

Local Drake Moody skated a pair for two weeks and really enjoyed them. The Dynamic Fit Collar may look a little funny, but it provided extra support for Drake's ankles. The base of the shoe is it's Hyperfeel construction.  Unlike a traditional cupsole, there is no midsole. All support is provided by it's Lunarlon insole. This allows Nike to provide substantial support in the heel while offering thin flexibility in the forefoot. Drake found that the shoes broke in quickly for natural board feel out of the box. That board feel was enhanced by the Flywire system which locked the shoes around his feet for a snug fit with zero slop. All these features make the shoes ideal for techy street and tranny while offering enough impact protection for larger gaps and stairsets.

After two weeks hard of skating, the shoes held up well. There's a lot of wear, but no holes or blowouts. The sole is still grippy and the suede has plenty of life. The collars are a little stinky, but not much worse than an average shoe. The Koston 3 doesn't raise the bar on durability, but it definitely doesn't disappoint.

Drake also skated the Bruin Hyperfeel, but preferred the Koston 3 because he thought they had better board feel, a better fit, more breathability, and provided superior ankle support. However, the Bruin still a great do it all shoe. The thicker insole provides better impact support without sacrificing much board feel, the durability was the same, and the price tag is far more affordable.
